For those of you that have used a table saw whose rip fence isnt quite straight, you know how frustrating it can be. Heres the run down on how I added a new surface to true up the fence on my Walker Turner 1180b.
I used 1/2" delrin to doll up my fence, but plywood could be used instead. I cut the pieces an inch wider than needed so that Id have a little space on top of the fence to store pencils and push sticks.
The fence already had some holes drilled in it, so all I had to do was duplicate the hole pattern.
I used binding posts, which are great for this application. You can find these at any specialty hardware store, or you can just go to Lowes. Also, the counterbored hole I had to make was the same for each half of the fence.
I start with a counter bore that is deep enough to fit the head of the bolt. Next I drill a through hole thats big enough for the barrel (piece on left) of the hardware. Now all thats left is to attach these pieces to the fence!
The fence is all finished up, and Im really happy with the results. Delrin is a pretty slick material, so boards slide along it without much effort.
